About

Our organisation was created in 2006 as the legacy from a two-year programme originally funded by the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE).  We maintain the ethos that was established in those early years and pursue good design as a benefit for all of society, as a 'public good', adding to the common-wealth of us all - and enriching everyday experiences.  We encourage, support and inform the work of others, providing a reliable partner to specific projects and more general collaborations with those that would wish to improve their approach to design and its outcomes for their business, organisation or community.  Our work remains focussed on the two counties of our 'Atlantic Peninsula', but also takes us elsewhere within the South West - recent commissions and invitations have seen us active in South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset and Bournemouth, for instance!...

Our support is direct, principled and practical.  It's aim is always to achieve improved outcomes in place-making and good design from ordinary sets of circumstances.  We pride ourselves in acting with neutrality - quite often called upon as an indpendent and trusted 'critical friend'.  We are able to work in collaboration with both the private sector and the public sector - and we are very experienced in facilitating an active role for communities in shaping their own local built environments.
